In 1968 Johnny Chan moved with his family from China to
Phoenix, Arizona.  He rose to fame in the late 1980's after
winning the main event of the World Series of Poker two years
in a row, 1987, and 1988.  In 1989 he finished second to Phil
Hellmuth.  He is the last player to win back to back Main Event
  bracelets.

Chan is known for keeping a lucky orange in front of him during
tournament play, and after he won the WSOP titles many other
players started to bring pieces of fruit to big tournaments. Chan
claims having the fruit was due to the pleasant smell, and to
block out the smoky smell of the tournament rooms.  Chan
is a reformed drinker and smoker.

In 2005 Chan became the first player to win ten WSOP titles.
He is currently tied with Doyle Brunson for second place,
exceeded only by Phil Hellmuth who has 11 titles.  Chan was
inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2002, and his total
WSOP winnings exceed 4.1 million dollars.

On NBC's Poker After Dark Chan has won in three out of the
five appearances that he has made.  In the final heads-up
matches he defeated Phil Hellmuth, Chris Moneymaker, and
  Patrik Antonius, an awesome achievement.

Chan has yet to make a final table on the WPT tour, despite
having made numerous entries.  His total live tournament
winnings come to more than 6.7 million dollars.

In addition to playing poker Chan owns a fast food franchise in
the Stratosphere Hotel in Las Vegas, and is a consultant for
various game makers.  He has also released two books: Play
  Poker Like Johnny Chan,
and Million Dollar Hold Em: Winning Big
  in Limit Cash Games.
