On Friday, three world famous women of poker will
be inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame. The 2009 honorees
are June Field, Jan Fisher, and Cyndy Violette.
“The Women in Poker Hall of Fame was founded to honor women in
poker who have acquired prominence in and made significant
contributions to the poker world,” said Linda Johnson, a 2008
inductee into the Hall. “I’ve known this year’s inductees for more
than 20 years, and they certainly fit the bill.”
World Poker Tour announcer Mike Sexton will commence the
festivities on June 5th, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the Golden Nugget.
Tickets for the open event will cost $90 at the door, $80 in advance
for first-time attendees, and $75 for anyone who also attended the
induction ceremony last year.
There will also be a dance and a silent auction.
Field, a bracelet winner for her win in the ladies’ seven card
stud event in 1982, founded Card Player in 1988 and Card
Player Cruises in 1992. She is retired and lives in Las Vegas.
Fisher, the co-founder of the Tournament Directors Association,
was a dealer for 15 years. Now, she is a member of the board of
directors for the Poker Players Alliance, the Ladies Poker
Association, and the Ladies International Poker Series.
Violette, a well known poker pro, won her first bracelet in 2004
and followed her victory up with six cashes and three final tables
in the 2005
.
There will also be a charity poker tournament on the day
preceding the induction ceremony, this Thursday, June 4 at 7 p.m.,
for Poker Gives — an organization that raises funds and distributes
them to four charities: Special Olympics, American Cancer Society,
Intrepid Fallen Heroes, and Paralyzed Veterans of America.
That event will have a $230 buy-in and $50 rebuys.
