Phil Hellmuth is best known for winning 11 WSOP
bracelets. In
1989 he won the WSOP Main
Event, defeating the winner of
the main event in
the previous two years, poker legend Johnny
Chan.
At the time this made Hellmuth the youngest player to
ever win the main event, at the age of 24. This record
stood
for almost 20 years when Peter Eastgate won
the 2008 main
event at the age of 22.
At the 2006 WSOP Hellmuth captured his record 10th WSOP
bracelet in the 1,000$ No Limit Hold Em with rebuys event.
At
the time this tied him with Johnny Chan and
Doyle Brunson,
although all of Hellmuth's
bracelets were in Texas Hold Em,
whereas Chan and
Brunson had one or more in Omaha.
At the 2007
WSOP Hellmuth won his record breaking 11th
bracelet in the 1,500$ No Limit Hold Em event.
Hellmuth also
holds the record for the most WSOP
cashes, 68, and most
WSOP final tables, 41,
recently overtaking TJ Cloutier.
At the 2008
WSOP main event Hellmuth finished well, placing
45th, and taking home 154,400$. Hellmuth has won
6,019,000$ in WSOP prize money and ranks 8th on the all time
winners list.
Hellmuth has not yet won a WPT
title. He has cashed in the
money ten times
at WPT events. To date Hellmuth has won
691,000$ in WPT event prize money. His biggest single
cash
at a WPT event was finishing sixth at the
2008 LA Poker
Classic, a prize worth 229,480$.
